Expert, Compassionate Care at Rouen University Hospital

Patient support is built around a public-private integrated Medical-Surgical Unit based at Rouen University Hospital and working in partnership with Clinique Saint Hilaire, ensuring coordinated, expert, and person-centered care.

Beyond treatment itself, we also develop therapeutic education programs and support from expert patients and partner associations to strengthen understanding of the condition, autonomy, and quality of life. Medicine occasionally remembers there is a human attached to the chart.

Receiving care in an integrated unit means benefiting from an organization where all key expertise works together in one place: cardiology, cardiac surgery, imaging, anesthesia and critical care, geriatrics, and follow-up teams.

This approach helps secure decisions, tailor care to your individual situation (age, other health conditions, frailty, life goals), and better coordinate each essential stage: evaluation, treatment decision, intervention, and follow-up.

The goal is simple: medical and technical excellence should first serve your quality of life.

That means taking time to explain options, answer questions, plan what comes next (returning home, rehabilitation, ongoing follow-up), and connect you with the right professionals at the right time.

Understanding More to Live Better with the Condition

Education therapeutique

Better understanding your condition and treatment can make a real difference. It can reduce anxiety, improve adherence to recommendations, and help identify warning signs earlier.

At the Institute, we offer support to help you feel more confident and informed:

  • Understand heart valve disease
  • Recognize certain symptoms
  • Organize follow-up care
  • Prepare for tests and procedures
  • Live better with treatment
  • Build helpful daily habits

This support can also include family members and caregivers, because balance is often built together, and an informed caregiver is usually a calmer one.

The goal is not to medicalize every corner of life, but to give you practical tools to gain independence and protect what matters most: energy, activities, confidence, and social life.

In practical terms, we help you to:

Better understand the condition
and treatment options

Recognize warning signs and
know when to seek care

Stay organized day to day

(appointments, activity, follow-up, medications)

Expert patients & associations: real support beyond medical care

Living with heart valve disease is not just a series of tests. It also brings questions, uncertainty, and sometimes worry.

Expert patients and partner organizations, including Alliance du Cœur, provide something essential: lived experience and peer support.

They can help patients better understand the care journey, put feelings into words, prepare for appointments, and find reliable resources.

This human connection strengthens the quality of support. It improves dialogue, helps people feel less alone, and contributes to better practices by bringing forward real patient needs.

It is a practical reminder of our commitment: medical excellence only matters if it improves daily life. A concept both obvious and strangely rare.
